Christian Testimonies

For this entry, I want to concentrate on three testimonies of Christian musicians. I want to talk about Lacey Mosley, lead singer of Flyleaf, and Joseph Rojas, lead vocalist for Seventh Day Slumber. I also want to talk about Brian Head Welch, former guitarist of Korn.

I have included a summary about each musician and their testimony. I also have videos of each artist sharing their personal testimony. I really hope you will take time to watch these moving and powerful videos of these three amazing Christians.

Lacey Mosley is the lead vocalist for the Christian rock band Flyleaf. Flyleaf’s debut album sold over 1 million copies and was certified platinum. Their second album, released in 2009, sold over 56,000 copies in the first week.
(Lacey Mosley)
Lacey had a very tough childhood. She grew up as an atheist, and believed it was her mission to tell others there was no God. At the age of 16, Lacey decided to commit suicide. The day before she planned to end her life, Lacey got into a huge fight with her grandmother. After the argument, Lacey’s grandmother forced her to go to church. While at church, Lacey had a supernatural encounter with God. Through the help of a sermon and a deacon, Lacey accepted Jesus Christ into her heart.

Joseph Rojas is the lead singer for the Christian rock band Seventh Day Slumber. Seventh Day Slumber is known for playing driving, rock anthems with lyrics about issues facing youth today. But, like so many other Christian bands, Seventh Day Slumber puts Christ at the center of all the lyrics.

"There are things going on with Christian kids that no one wants to talk about because we¹re supposed to be happy," said Joseph Rojas, lead singer and guitarist for Seventh Day Slumber. "When talking about those issues, we always paint Christ as the answer to hurting people and tough situations."

(Joseph Rojas)

Like Lacey Mosley, Rojas also had a very troubling childhood. When he was young, Rojas vividly remembers his father physically and verbally abusing his mother. While growing up, Rojas was constantly being teased for being Hispanic, overweight, and poor. When Rojas was in his teens, he began experimenting with cocaine, in order to escape the pain of life. By the age of 21, Joseph Rojas was a convicted felon, thief, atheist, and had a $400 a day cocaine addiction.

One day, Rojas decided to commit suicide by taking a lethal amount of cocaine. While overdosing on cocaine, his mother walked in on him. His mother quickly called the paramedics. In the back of an ambulance, Joseph Rojas found the love of God. Later on in life, Rojas also had the opportunity to lead his father to Christ.

Brian Head Welch is the former guitarist for the highly publicized heavy metal group Korn. Since the band’s formation in 1993, Korn has sold over 16.5 million records, earned 6 grammy nominations, and released 33 singles.

After being with the band for almost 12 years, Welch left the band in 2005 after he accepted Jesus Christ. While being a member of Korn, Welch had a debilitating addiction to methamphetamine. Welch’s miraculous transformation started when he became a father. Brian was especially affected when his daughter began singing explicit lyrics from Korn songs.

(Brian Welch and his daughter)

Brian Welch was first witnessed to by his real estate broker. Over the phone, his real estate broker quoted Matthew 11:28 to him. The verse reads, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This Bible verse turned out to have a profound impact on Welch’s life. Soon after his conversation with the broker, Welch became a Christian, became completely sober from drugs, and quit the band Korn. Welch firmly believes that God used his daughter to save him.

Since his conversion, Welch has now joined the world of Christian rock. He released his debut Christian metal album, Save Me From Myself, on September 9, 2008.

This video of Brian Welch is featured on the website I Am Second. This website features testimonies from people around America. It includes testimonies of famous athletes and coaches such as Jason Witten, Josh Hamilton, Darrell Waltrip, Joe Gibbs, Tony Dungy, Sam Bradford, and Colt McCoy. Stephen Baldwin, Mike Huckabee, and Jason Castro are also on the website presenting their testimonies.

  4. Thank you for sharing this with me Emily. First, I just want to tell you again that Jesus loves you just the way that you are. He cares for you and longs to have a relationship with you. I would be glad to talk with you anytime about Jesus Christ. Accepting and following Jesus is the most important decision that you could make in your life.

The Bible says that everyone is a sinner. I am a sinner, and you are sinner. In Romans 3:23, the Bible says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” The Bible also says that the wages of sin is death. Because of our sinful nature, every person deserves death. But, there is great news. God sent his only son Jesus Christ to die for you and me. God sent his son to save us from death and to save us from our sin. Jesus Christ died on a cross for you, and rose again three days later. On the cross, Jesus paid the price for every sin that you have committed. Jesus Christ loved you so much that He sacrificed His life for you.

If you do want to accept Christ into your heart, it is as simple as saying the ABCs. First, you have to accept that you are a sinner and that you need a Savior. Second, you have to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again for your sins. Finally, you have to confess that Jesus is Lord of your life. If you do want to accept Christ, all you have to do is tell Jesus in prayer. Below is a simple prayer that you could pray right now to ask Jesus into your heart.

“Jesus I admit that I am a sinner. I am in need of a Savior. Please forgive me of my sins and shortcomings. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again for my sins. I confess that Jesus is Lord and Savior of my life. I truly believe that you love me and have a plan for me. Thank you Jesus for saving me and giving me eternal life. Thank you for your unending grace. Amen.”

It is great that you are going to church right now. That is a great place to start. Not knowing a lot of people at church could be tough and lonely at times. But, God will be with you every step up of the way. I would encourage you to talk with someone at church, whether it is a pastor, or teacher, or youth leader. I am sure that they would love to talk to you more about Jesus Christ and a decision of asking Him into your life. I know I can’t write everything in a short message, but if you do want to talk to me some more, I would love to be able to help. You can simply keep leaving a comment on this blog post, or you can send me an email at 93wxln@gmail.com. Once again, I just want to let you know that God loves you! He longs to have a personal relationship with you!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

  5. thanks...wow how many times am i gonna say thanks. um...i guess being a christian is a way to fit in believeing in god i guess gives me somebody to talk to someone that wont ignore me not that you do because you don't and not being ignored is weird for me because almost my whole life i've been ignored-or most poeple talk trash abut me right in front of me so...i guess thats life. i always thought that god hated me you know just like everything that has happend to me-that is happening to me. i never thought it would be so hard to stop cutting i couldnt take it anymore yesterday i cut myself really bad. im sorry...why do you even talk to me? most poeple think im a wast of time.

  6. No matter how lonely you are, no matter how much you feel like you don’t fit in, God loves you. God wants you. He loves you and wants to welcome you into His family. God is right there beside you twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. The Bible says that God will never leave you or forsake you.

I will admit that life is tough. God never promised us that life would be easy. But, the beautiful thing is that God did promise that we will not face tough times alone. He will always be by your side. When you feel lonely or when you are going through a tough time, God promises that he will be right beside you. No matter what people say or do, I urge you to never think that you are a waste of time. You are wonderfully and perfectly made. God loves you, He cares for you, and He has made you perfect.

I will stress that cutting is not the answer. I would once again urge you to talk to someone at your church about the things that you are dealing with. I know it could be awkward or hard to do, but I am sure that an adult at church would take the time to talk with you. I know that they would love to help you, and encourage you.

“Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies…How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Psalm 36:5,7

  10. Hey its Emily the girl that posted the comments up there I am glad to say that I'm a Christian and I will admit being a Christian it not easy but its worth it because I've been a Christian since February 15th and I haven't cut for too weeks that's the longest I've ever made it and its an amazing feeling I've accomplished something finally worth being happy about. If I know one thing its that I will not go back to who I was because who I am now is who I'm ment to be.

  11. Thank you for sharing this great news with me! I agree, it is not always easy being a Christian. But, the beautiful thing is that God promises that He will never leave or forsake us. When times are tough and we are struggling, God promises that He will be right beside us every step of the way.

  12. You're welcome I mean just everything that has happened to me it's all just so amazing and you know I never really felt God here with me until just last night when one of my friends asked me if I wanted to pray and I said yes as we were praying I broke down in tears and I mean I just felt God with meit was the best feeling that I've ever felt there's no words to explain it it was so amazing.

  13. It is the best feeling in the world! Words cannot describe the feeling of God's presence. It is just something that each person must experience for themselves. Prayer is a beautiful thing. Prayer is our direct line and connection to God!

  14. yeah...I never realized it untill well just a few days ago. When I told my firend Nyahok something she said that when I tell her I want to know God what comes to her mind is that he is already in me I just have to have faith in him trust him and a few days ago I finally did and still do. I've learned that one way she shows Gods love...the most amazing love is through prayer I can't believe i ever thought prayer was stupid.

  15. I am very happy for you, and this huge step that you have taken in your life. The great thing now that you know and feel the amazing love of Christ, hopefully you might have an opportunity to share God's love with someone else!

  16. Thanks. Hey what's your favorite Bible verse?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ok so like what does the Bible say about suicide?

    ReplyDelete
  18. My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13. It says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Throughout my life, that verse has never failed me. It's a great reminder about how much God loves and cares for us throughout our life.

The Bible does say a few things about suicide. First, God commands us to never murder. Suicide, even though it is with one person, is still murder and is a sin in God's eyes. A great reminder to all of us when we are going through hard times or depression, some of the greatest people in the Bible went through the very same things. Both Job and David dealt with unwavering depression. But, God gave them perseverance and ultimately they came out of it. Later on in their lives they became a testimony for what had done through them. No matter what we are going through, suicide is not the answer.

  19. A lot of my friends tell me that too. One time I said that I was gonna commit suicide and nothing was gonna stop me but then I went to my friends church and even know it has only been about four weeks I've been changed big time. I know this is kind of a stuipd question I don't understand how you pray like I don't get it. How do you pray? How can God listen to more than one person?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ok another question... what do I do when I'm ignored and treated like I'm worthless? It makes me wanna commit suicide.

    ReplyDelete
  21. There is not a formula to follow when praying. Everyone prays to God differently. Starting off, just pray to God like he is standing right beside you in a room. Pray about your day and what you are dealing with. Prayer is your direction line of communication to God.

  22. Ok..thanks that's basically what I have been doing. You've been really helpful these past...months:) thanks.

  23. That is no problem! I am glad to help!

  24. Hey so like it's Emily...again...anyway like I knida like have somewhat of a plan to commit suicide and like I honestly don't want to kill myself but sometimes like it seems like the only way out and like the people that know how suicidal I am are all christians and are telling me to pray like talk to God about it but like honestly I don't think God will take away the pain because like I've asked him to before and he really didn't like at this piont I don't know what to do because honestly I don't see any piont in reading the Bible even if I know there is a point to it. like when i was little I was kinda tought that God was the enemy so like thats somewhat of what I think now. like is God the enemy? and like what does it mean to be a christian?

    1. Hey Emily. So I was talking to my roommates about stuff that has happened in my life and trying to find a solution for my brother who gets himself in trouble a lot. I was telling them about testimonies from christian artists so I looked them up and stumbled on this blog. As I read some of the comments between you and Marc, I started praying for you. My name is Sarah and I live in Texas. God is searching you out. What are the chances that I would be reading this blog the day after you made this comment? God is showing you that he cares about you. You may not be able to see him through the foggyness of your life, but I (some random girl in Texas) am praying for you. May you experience the love and freedom of Jesus like I have. May you feel God near you and not distant. The reality is, that there is an enemy. God loves you and wants you to experience his love and acceptance. But the devil is out to ruin you. The devil is a good lier and will tell you over and over that God isn't there. But HE IS!! He is crazy about you :)

  25. First, I just want to say again that suicide is never the answer. I fully understand pain and knowing that life is hard. My life has been difficult over the last few years. In the last four years, I was forced to have open heart surgery and two years later my stomach quit working. So, I definitely understand pain. During those times, I was like you, I was mad at God. I was asking God, what did I do to deserve this and why do I have to feel this pain? It wasn’t until after that I fully saw the grace and love of God. It wasn’t until after I got through all of my health troubles that I really saw God. Looking back over those years, I can see God’s fingerprints all over my life. I can see His fingerprints on everything.

I am sorry that you were taught that God is the enemy. I can’t tell you enough, that God is far from your enemy. God is your Savior. He loves you unconditionally. I will urge you to never stop reading your Bible, praying, or talking to Christians around you.

Here is a song that I want to share with you. It’s a good reminder that maybe the blessings in our life come through tears and raindrops. Even if you can’t feel Him at this exact moment, God is right beside you, loving you every minute of the day.

  26. Wow you've been through a lot I know I would be like terrified if I ever went through anything like that. I'm sure that was like a scarey thing for you. I mean I can only imagine what that would be like. and the song like i almost started crying like I've heard it before but I never actually listened to like the lyrics because everybody is really loud when the radio in the car is on. I'm going to a camp in like 2 days and basically what they want you yo do in unplug from your past and sin and the world and yourself and just like plug into God like the them is unplugged. a lot of my friends want me to go and you know like I just like want to tell them that they'll be lucky if I'm still alive by then although Igavein anyway but like they don't relize that I'm serious when it comes to suicide like they think I'm like kidding because like I'm like all "happy" and like hard to Hurt like honestly I don't think very many of them see the pain and hurt inside of me and it's as obvious as neon green on top of black. like 3 things are keeping me alive right now and thats christian rock\just random christian music, my friend Nyahok and you.

  27. Thanks for praying and sharing your heart Sarah. Emily, the beautiful thing about Jesus is that He doesn't just love us. But, Jesus passionately pursues us!

  28. That's literally what I learned last night are church and like and like I went up to the altar/steps to the stage and I just like tries to leave my past and just let it be and I did until a girl I know that talked to me a few weeks before came over to talk to.me and she told me that my life is perfectly fine and I'm fine but the reason why is cuz like she wouldn't let me finish what I was trying to say and like thanks Sara (some random girl in Texas) :) I think.you should asked him why he does the stuff he does and like hear him out and if he wont talk.to.you just pray with him and if he tells you no then he doesn't know.what he is missing out on because like prayer is like the most amazing thing its a way to talk to God and that's amazing and I learned this from a church I go to on Wednesday nights but like didnt rwally relize it until.a little while ago and like everyone wants to pray with you if you're going through a tough time and they want to listen to you honestly I think hearing him out would help him a lot just because like it has helped me and I ever got into "huffing" aka inhaling something that was 91% alcohol what stopped me was people I hardly know at that church would see me crying and their first reaction is either what's up? or talk to me what's wrong? Or they would want to pray with.me and just to make sure and I mean MAKE SURE I know God loves me

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's the most important thing to always remember. Whenever we are worried, hurting, or ever in doubt, prayer is the best thing to do.
